Edwards Technical Writing is very happy to have been nominated in the category of New Business in the 2020 Greater Victoria Business Awards.
This is a great opportunity to highlight the hard work, value, and determination, that has gone into creating this business. A business that was built from scratch, and has grown over the last two years. Working with the non-profit community, as a business, and as a volunteer, and planning for a sustainable future.
Happy second birthday to Edwards Technical Writing.
As I celebrate my second “business birthday”, I look back and reflect on lessons learned, achievements, and plans for the future.
I have been nominated for a Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Business Award!
**** Woo hoo ****
I am busy, and cannot take on any new clients until March; That is a substantial achievement, as I started the business from scratch, with no clients.
I am working on a writing contract for the federal government (Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Ottawa). This is not only incredibly interesting work, but is in the field that I earned an MSc. Scientific writing is something that I enjoy, am good at, and makes me happy!
Writing grant proposals also makes me excited! And its grant season in Victoria! With deadlines either just passed, or imminent for the City of Victoria and the Victoria Foundation.
Business is good!
Plans for the future? Making my business carbon neutral? I’m still figuring out conceptually how this is going to look. If your business is carbon neutral, send me an email, and we can go for coffee, and brainstorm ways to reduce our businesses carbon footprint.
“Let’s spread kindness throughout Greater Victoria! Watch for Kindness Cards at retailers and other locations around the community!” ….. yes, it’s Random Act of Kindness Day.
This is a great opportunity for me to use virtue signalling, for extra social media marketing, and a predictable (nothing random here) act of kindness.
Edwards Technical Writing is based at the Dock co-working space. This is a vibrant and collaborative social impact hub, and a great place to do anything work related (acts of kindness included).
Once I have committed my act of kindness on Friday, I plan to take a photo, email it to the Victoria Foundation, and share it on social media using the hashtag #RAKdayYYJ . This will provide me with the chance to win one of two $500 prizes for a registered charity of my choice…. If I win a prize – I am choosing the Victoria Literacy Connection!! (VLC). VLC is a local non-profit, focused on literacy; and Alison Edwards is a member of their Fundraising and Communications Committee. They do great work to improve literacy in Victoria. Edwards Technical Writing is providing a large bucket of Halloween candy for co-workers at the Dock, accompanied by a donation jar. This collection will be donated to the VLC.
Mayors and councillors from across Canada are gathering in Victoria for the Livable Cities Forum 2019; To co-develop a call to action on climate change and social resilience #LCF2019
Alison Edwards from Edwards Technical Writing will be there. If you are interested in writing a grant proposal or another type of technical documentation, get in touch.
